Forget Resolutions. Make Commitments.

The transition from one year to another is a good time to pause. To reflect on the year gone by and envision a new year that will leave you feeling fulfilled twelve months from now.

A chance to reflect on the year behind you, count your blessings, and think about what you want the year ahead to look like.

Over the next few days, you’ll probably be asked a familiar question:

“What’s your New Year’s resolution?”

Many folks will have a resolution or two involving improved fitness and health. And that makes sense because literally anything in life is improved by having more energy, less aches and pains and being in a sound headspace.

Today, I’d like to posit a different question.

What is the commitment you’re making for 2026?

On the surface, those words seem similar. In fact, their dictionary definition is quite similar.

A resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something.
A commitment is the state of being dedicated to a cause.

The real difference shows up when you look a little deeper.

Resolutions are about intention.
Commitments are about dedication.

Intentions are easy to make.

Commitments are powerful because they show up in your daily actions – especially on the days when motivation is low, life is busy, or progress feels slow.

I’m sure you’ve seen the stats – 75% of people give up on their resolution by February, and only 5% of people see their resolutions through to the finish.

But commitments – REAL commitment to yourself.

So this weekend, as you enjoy watching sports, spending time with family, being stoked about the prospects of this new year, we invite you to ask yourself:

What am I truly committed to in 2026?

Not what you hope to do.
Not what you intend to start.

What are you willing to show up for consistently? To answer that, you have to put a stake in the ground about what’s truly important to you.

At Fit Lab, our commitment is simple: to help our members build strength, confidence, and sustainable habits that carry over into real life.

No quick fixes.
No trying to punish our bodies for overindulging during the holidays.

Steady and sustainable progress that actually makes you feel better.

If 2026 is the year you stop chasing resolutions and start honoring commitments, we’d be honored to be part of that journey.

Wishing you a truly healthy and happy 2026.
